Homemade Croutons

What to do with bread that isn't stale but not fresh either? Make croutons! It's super easy and quite tasty. All you need is bread, olive oil and seasonings.

Homemade Croutons

Ingredients:

  • 6 slices, bread of your choice (preferably stale)

  • 1/2 tablespoon Salt

  • 1/2 tablespoon Pepper

  • 1/2 tablespoon Garlic powder

  • 1/2 tablespoon Oregano


Instructions:

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 250°F.

  2. Cut your stale bread into cubes of your desired size. (A pizza cutter makes this task much easier).

  3. In a bowl, With the bread cubes in a mixing bowl, drizzle the olive oil around the inside of the mixing bowl. This is to be sure all croutons are evenly coated as you toss. I use my clean hands to gently toss.

  4. Sprinkle your selected seasonings, salt, and pepper over the bread, mixing well to distribute the flavors.

  5. Spread the seasoned bread cubes on a baking sheet in a single layer.

  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until the croutons are golden brown and crispy.

  7. Allow the croutons to cool before adding them to your favorite dishes.

  8. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for future use.

  • Experiment with different bread types for varied textures and flavors.

  • Consider adding grated Parmesan cheese for an extra savory touch.
